PEDAGOGY OF THE OPPRESSED
By Paulo Freire
If I had to recommend just one book on education, this would be it! This book reflects on the role of education in society, and whenever I am asking myself "why am I doing this job"- which is very often - I think back to Freire.

TEACHER TOOLKIT
By Ross Morrson McGill
This is a very holistic view of the role of the teacher. It is aimed at NQTs but I recommend it no matter what stage you are in your career. Makes me reflect on all the aspects of being a teacher (including things like break duties) and how important everything is!

THE HANDBOOK OF SECONDARY GEOGRAPHY
Edited by Mark Jones
This is a really good one for geography teachers, especially if, like me, you don't have a degree in geography! If looks at several aspects of teaching and learning specifically in the context of geography.

IMPACT
I'm still learning about all the subscriptions you can get as a teacher and which ones are worth it. This magazine, however, is outstanding. Each article is clear, short and relevant.

GETTING THE BUGGERS TO BEHAVE
By Sue Cowley
Great book for behaviour management. This was super helpful when I started in my current school. Managing behaviour takes 100% of your energy when you start teaching or start a new school, so it is important to get it right!

THE FORMS OF CAPITAL
By Pierre Bourdieu
First time I read this was a long time ago, but it stayed with me and now I have been using it again. It is true that it's crazy hard to read, and I don't think I still fully understand it (it's a process!) but I also think it's essential! It's one of these "big picture" ideas to keep in mind. You can find it here.

TEACH LIKE A CHAMPION
My Doug Lemov
Classic! This is a book to spend a long time working on. Very practical! I love the fact that it comes with videos so you can see the techniques in practice.
